Dear Berkshires Business & Community Leaders,
Since 2020, Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the Berkshires has become a cherished and transformative annual celebration in our region. Rooted in healing, remembrance, and community connection, this historic gathering is becoming part of the cultural fabric of the Berkshires—and it is made possible each year through the generous support of local sponsors like you.
We are writing to invite you as a business, organization, or individual to join us as a sponsor of this year’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2025 celebration.
This year’s program includes two powerful events:
HONORING OUR ROOTS
Ancestral Healing & Allyship Workshop
Thursday, October 10 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
@Southern Berkshires Meeting House in Great Barrington
A healing workshop focused on ancestral healing and authentic allyship, led by facilitator Stella Metzner, and designed especially for white-identified community members working toward solidarity with Indigenous and BIPOC communities.INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY
Ceremonial Walk & Community Gathering
Sunday, October 13 | 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
@ The WEB DuBois Legacy Garden & RiverWalk, Great Barrington
Our annual event will take place in a new location this year. We will be gathering for a more intimate circle in the WEZB DuBois Legacy Garden, where we will share words about the deep meaning of this day and how it connects to our work for social justice, cultural repair, and the Rights of Nature movement in support of the Housatonic River. We will be joined by special guest, cultural educator and former co-director of AVF, Shawn Stevens, from the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of the Mohicans. He and his family will be here during this special season as one of the main organizers of the Homelands Pow Wow, which will take place the previous weekend, October 4 & 5.
Over the past five years, Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Berkshires has grown into a space of profound connection and learning. Families from the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans have returned to their ancestral homelands to share stories, shed tears of joy, and offer blessings. Children in our community have had the chance to witness and participate in Indigenous culture, history, and healing. Relationships with neighboring tribal communities are growing stronger. And your support is what makes all of this possible.

By generously offering your financial support, you ensure IPD continues to be a staple in the Berkshires community.
Since 2020, Alliance for a Viable Future has become the official organizer for Indigenous Peoples’ Day (IPD) in the Berkshires.
why this matters to you
Partnering with us says that your business / organization is an ally of indigenous people; specifically the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, the original inhabitants of the Berkshires.
We are proud sponsors of the first annual Homelands Pow Wow that is being organized by members of the Stockbridge-Munsee and Berkshires community organizers.
Honoring Indigenous People’s Day is a step toward healing, truth and reconciliation in response to the immense harm of colonization done to Indigenous people. Building a green, regenerative economy includes repairing the roots of our destructive past economic & social systems.
what does sponsorship mean?
Sponsorships are itemized as a marketing expense, and give you and your organization positive exposure in the Berkshires. The sponsorship fee is not tax-exempt. To make a tax-exempt donation, click here.
Our mission at Alliance for a Viable Future (AVF) is to
develops leadership and builds alliance for bioregional climate solutions and intercultural peacemaking
in the Berkshires and throughout the Northeast.
We are building a network of indigenous creators, community businesses & organizations, spiritual leaders, activists, and thought-leaders to engage citizens throughout the Berkshires and the entire Northeast in a collective effort to amplify our bioregional climate leadership.
Our climate emergency requires grassroots solutions - organizations and businesses working hand-in-hand, with each other, to solve local problems and fuel positive impact. Systemic racism and the climate crisis are two sides of the same multifaceted coin - a result of the long history of colonialism that disregards people and the planet. By working to foster unity and reconciliation, we are working to create climate solutions that start with empowering people, healing communities, and connecting the dots between issues that we have been incorrectly taught are unrelated.
