We are living in unprecedented times.
The Alliance for a Viable Future brings together leaders,
activists, and visionaries to meet this moment with courage,
compassion, and creativity.
We cultivate alliances and nurture leadership for
bioregional climate solutions and intercultural
peacemaking in the Berkshires and across the Northeast.
Our work is about building trust, shaping a shared vision,
and practicing strategies to navigate the
challenges of our time—grounded in place,
guided by spirit, and made real through collective action.
Step into the circle–through our signature
Leadership Cohort, compelling programs,
and community events–and together
we can create a viable future.
OUR FLAGSHIP PROGRAM
The AVF Leadership Cohort
Leadership for a Viable Future
Our signature yearlong program gathers a diverse circle of changemakers from across the Northeast. Together, we cultivate the skills, relationships, and vision needed to lead in times of disruption and possibility.
Rooted in deep relationship, this circle is more than a program—it is a growing movement of aligned partners who recognize that the challenges we face are complex, interconnected, and impossible to solve in isolation. From climate instability to cultural fragmentation, the path forward requires trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the wellbeing of people and planet.
“The circle gives permission...We’re giving each other permission to care deeply...when we do that,
then intelligence, courage, and skillfulness emerge naturally.”
– Lev Natan, Founder & Executive Director of AVF
Lead Facilitator & Program Designer

UPCOMING EVENTS
Rights of Nature 101 Webinar Series
Tuesday, September 30, 2025 | 7:30 PM 9:00 PM
AVF hosts programs that invite learning, reflection, and action at the intersection of ecology, justice, and spirit. These gatherings create accessible entry points into movements for change and cultivate ongoing practices of partnership and resilience.
Join us for a dynamic introduction to the global movement to recognize ecosystems as living entities with rights. Together, we’ll explore local organizing in the Berkshires, learn from groundbreaking campaigns, and listen to Indigenous leaders whose communities have long honored Earth as a living relative.
Ancestral Healing & Allyship Workshop
Friday, October 10, 2025 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
This workshop is intentionally designed for white-identified community members who are engaging in the lifelong practice of allyship with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Grounded in the understanding that meaningful solidarity begins within, this healing circle offers a space to explore the intergenerational impacts of colonization, ancestral disconnection, and inherited patterns of privilege and harm.
Indigenous People’s Day in the berkshires
Monday, October 13, 2025 | 12:00 PM 1:00 PM
Our events bring people together in ceremony, dialogue, and celebration. From seasonal gatherings to public programs, each event strengthens the bonds of community and nourishes our collective vision for a viable future.
Since 2020, AVF has been the official organizer of Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Berkshire County, MA. Each year, we host ceremonies, councils, and public events that honor Native voices, build alliances, and invite the wider community into relationship.
Our Mission & Philosophy
We believe building a viable future begins with partnership—grounded in place, guided by spirit, and made real through collective action. Inspired by natural systems like the rhizosphere, we practice social biomimicry: cultivating resilience, reciprocity, and relationship.
